We're on a mission to re-educate owners of log burners where proper logs are bought from.

Buying logs online

It's easy to buy logs online from the DIY sheds or from individuals shifting logs on eBay but the service is far from personal; the logs that you take delivery of will regard your doorstep as the end of a very long and vague supply chain.

Traditional community business

We work to keep our business personal, local, the Home Counties are where we traditionally fell and deliver logs. There are a lot of people that like the traditional way of life, they still like 3-4 chickens in the garden, they like their apple tree; more so in the Home Counties. We have some stunning countryside around us in Hertfordshire and people pay an awful lot of money to live in the countryside now which is quite the reverse of the early '80s. Home owners shouldn't be palmed-off with whatever cheap, softwood logs the national brands can get their hands on, the community needs traditional businesses like ours as much as we need them.

Having a log fire is a warm, cozy, family affair and we're proud to be able to warm the homes of families with locally sourced and produced logs; we've been in business for over 30 years delivering what we believe to be the best quality firewood logs that we can possibly supply. There are people out there that love the milkman and having a bottle of milk delivered to their doorstep; that's a wonderful thing to have and we see ourselves as part of that tradition. A log fire makes you want to invite neighbours in for a cuppa, by building-up that local community we're building that stability up for our kids.

The reason for taking such a 'buy logs locally' stance online is because people aren't aware that a traditional local log delivery business like ours still exists and, arguably, delivers better quality produce pound-for-pound than the national brands.

Buy logs online

Homeowners can get hold of timber, firewood and logs on the Internet but the flashy websites that tend to sell wood to homeowners are merely middlemen and we don't know of any company, like ours, that'll deliver logs to a customer, take the time to have a chat with them or show them how to light a fire. So we recognise there's a lot of noise out there but often find ourselves wondering if there's truly real competition for us. Geographically, the nearest competitor to us selling logs is over 30 miles away and, like us, he'll probably be making a proper living out of firewood but we'll soon see that disappear if people don't know what they're buying.

We tell our customers in Herts, Beds and Bucks:

We work to produce a product that you'll be happy with and one that we can be proud of; a log that that meets all the technical criteria of your log stoves; a log that is delivered under a certain percentage of moisture (otherwise you're going to get tar in the chimney); plus, we know what you need, what you deserve and what your money should be buying.

Sure, we might be a little bit dearer than than some but our quality seasoned logs burn slower and burn hotter than low-grade softwoods so, in reality, we're not dearer. You may have bought logs from a builder who's uprooted and wants to dispose of a tree and he thinks he could have a crack at selling firewood and so cuts the tree into logs in a little a corner of a yard somewhere, they have a bit of this and that, they bag the logs up and they try and sell the logs down the pub or on eBay. We're sure that kind of thing happens in every trade so although we don't have proper competition any more we do see a lot of what we classify as unfair competition, trading on unlicensed premises. What's annoying is that the only person to come out of this arrangement with a bum deal is the customer.
