Stack logs outside as if you were seasoning them
Seasoned logs are traditionally matured for 2-4 years before they're delivered to your home.

How do I store seasoned logs at home?

We'll deliver our logs to your front door, typically our logs are tipped onto customers' driveways. Obviously, you can't leave logs there, they do need to be stacked so that, when it does rain, only the top ones get wet; similar to how we season logs but on a smaller scale.

Storing logs outside

If you do want to stack and store logs outside, which is fine, stack your seasoned firewood neatly like we do, against a wall or the back of the house very regimentally and then its only the top logs which will get wet. Take the top logs off as you require them, bring them in the house and put them in the log basket the day before you need to light them. Keep the process going. As you use the logs, you'll find that the seasoned firewood underneath won't be saturated because they'll be thatched with logs.

Vertical stacks tightly packed and against a wall

How to stack firewood logs outsideSouth-facing walls are no better or worse for stacking logs, whatever building elevation is available to the house will suffice. If you keep logs on the driveway or in a big heap then the snow and rain, everything, will get into the logs. The traditional process of seasoning means we've got the hardwood firewood logs down to a certain moisture level and, when left open to the elements, the absorbent logs would suck up the ground moisture, dew, mist, fog, rain and snow and wet logs make for useless firewood. Many of our customers have purpose built buildings, garages, or outhouses to store their logs, some even use the logs inside their homes as part of their decor such as a pile of wood in their conservatory. We supply certain restaurants with firewood where we stack the logs in the restaurant as it's nice to look at.

How long will logs last when stacked outside?

If you have stacked your logs as we have advised then you should expect your logs to last 2-3 years. Once you've lit your log burner and been wooed by the log lifestyle you'll certainly prefer to burn your logs rather than leave them stacked; and although your logs would certainly last another couple of years after delivery, if you put your logs in your garage they'll last indefinitely. Leave your logs outside on the grass, or stacked against the wall, exposed to damp and the weather, then the wood's going to start breaking down - it's a natural process. Certainly if the delivery of logs goes completely undercover, in a garage or some sort of outbuilding, then it'll be protected from the natural elements and, like a lump of furniture, it would sit there forever.
